Traces of the Wild
My senior thesis at Bethel University, titled Traces of the Wild, explores how animals have adapted to living in artificial human environments, whether they are pets living in our homes or wild animals inhabiting suburban neighborhoods. In this work, I combine hand drawn illustrations with photos taken in my home and neighborhood to create an imaginative world where exotic animals live alongside humans in everyday settings. We rarely glance twice at the animals with which we share our world; but when exotic animals replace these common creatures, the juxtaposition causes viewers to look at the wildlife around them in a new light, and question where the natural world may be headed in the future.
