In the rolling fields of rural Minnesota lies a sanctuary where unwanted foxes find refuge.

Saving Foxes: Portraits of Rescued Foxes and Their Stories

Founded in 2017 by fox expert Mikayla Raines, Save a Fox is the largest fox rescue in the U.S., specializing in giving fur farm foxes and pet surrenders a second chance. The animals at the rescue balance on the border between wild and domesticated–they cannot survive in the wild, yet they are not as tame as pets, creating unique challenges for their species and their caregivers. Through striking photos and insights from fox caregivers and volunteers, Saving Foxes: Portraits of Rescued Foxes and Their Stories tells the emotional stories of 27 foxes who have come through the rescue’s doors on their way to their forever homes.

Saving Foxes was a passion project of mine that began in 2018 when I first came across @saveafox_rescue on Instagram. As a huge animal lover–and a fox lover in particular–Save a Fox’s mission was close to my heart. I began talking to Save a Fox’s founder Mikayla Raines and volunteers at the rescue, collecting the stories of the foxes they have worked with. Saving Foxes is a compilation of those stories, paired with stunning photos that were generously donated to the project by photographers and volunteers at the rescue.

Saving Foxes was written, designed, and published by me, Lauren Williamson, through Lauren Alane Design LLC. The interior design of Saving Foxes was inspired by fashion magazines. Foxes are one of the most popular animals in the fur industry, which is closely tied to the fashion industry. Basing my design on fashion magazines subtly contrasts the live foxes in the books with the fox fur that often appears in fashion.

All proceeds from Saving Foxes are donated to Save a Fox, supporting their mission to give former fur farm foxes a better life. You can purchase the book in paperback or hardcover on Amazon, Barnes & Noble online, or many of your other favorite online booksellers.

Special thanks to Mikayla Raines, Kim Davis, Bruce Coolen, and Alexis Howard. Without their beautiful photos of life at the rescue, this book would not exist.
